Suriname…
What is that, who is that, where is that?
These are
the questions we get if we go abroad and say that we are from Suriname. Many
people don’t know where this beautiful country is. Well let us start at the
beginning.
Suriname is
a not just a small country, it is the smallest country in South–America.
French-Guyana is our neighbor in the east. In the west we have Guyana and
Brazil is in the south. In the north we are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.
With around a half million, the vast majority of
people live in the capital: Paramaribo!
The population consist of these main ethnic groups.
- Native Americans.
- Offspring of the Europeans.
- Creoles.
- Chinese.
- East
Indians also known as Hindustani.
- Javanese.
Later on
the Jews, Lebanese and Brazilian also came to this precious country.
It is
magnificent to see how the people live as 1 beside the different backgrounds.
